Why study Master of Religious Education at Notre Dame?
The specialist Master of Religious Education degree provides an opportunity for those wishing to develop their skills as leaders of Religious Education in schools and is designed to provide a solid theological and educational grounding for the religious educator and school leader.

The structure of this degree offers students a wide choice of electives while at the same time ensures that relevant core material is covered. For example, if a student wishes to study predominantly Theology or Religious Education in their degree, it is possible to complete six units in either of these disciplines.
Course Structure
The Master of Religious Education are required to complete eight units of study consisting of:

Two Core Religious Education Units
  • Critical Issues in Religious Education 1
  • Critical Issues in Religious Education 2

Two Core Units from Theology
  • Christology
  • Mystery of Christ 4: Church and Sacraments

Four Elective choices from Religious Education or Theology
Units are chosen in consultation with the Course Coordinator from a range of available units.

Units are available in a mix of modes: Intensive (during school holidays), Semi-intensive (four Saturdays over a semester) and External or Online. The degree may be completed entirely in External or Online modes.

Subject to unit availability, students can undertake their studies in Summer Term (January), first semester (February), April Intensive, Winter Term (July), second semester (July) or October Intensive.
Admission Requirements
A student applying for the Master of Religious Education must hold the equivalent of a four year teaching qualification and have at least three years of professional experience in either a primary or secondary school setting.
