Currently a Senior Lecturer in Counselling, Helen has been part of the teaching team at UNDA since 2008. She has a Master of Counselling from the University of New England and is currently working towards a Doctor of Counselling through The University of Notre Dame Australia. Before being drawn into a career in counselling, Helen was employed as Manager of Employment Equity both within the Queensland public service and within the tertiary education sector. Over 20 years of counselling in private practice has offered the opportunity to work with clients across the lifespan. Helen has a particular passion for developing creative-arts based counselling interventions for young people traumatised by abuse and neglect.

Helen’s current research is an exploration of self-compassionate relating with self and others for women who have had breast cancer. She is also the co-author of two books and several articles on the application of Expressive Therapies in counselling practice.
