Ken Kelso (BA English Honours UWA, 3 year postgraduate diploma TV/Film AFTRS, Teachers Certificate- drama/oral English specialist) is a writer/script editor, director and producer of film, television and theatre drama with experience also in animation, puppetry, documentary and theatre-in-education. Ken has held managerial positions in the media industry including National Commissioning Editor for ABC TV, Chairman of WA Film Council and National Counsellor for Australian Writers Guild.
The film and television industry has recognized Ken with major awards: 1999 AFI nomination for, ‘The Adventures of Sam’ (first animation to receive that honour), the gold Australian Writers Guild (AWGIE) and international awards for the feature film ‘Manganinnie, AWGIE nominations for 8-hour mini series ‘A Fortunate Life’, his original film drama ‘Where Two Rivers Meet’ ( broadcast as part of the national Corroboree 2000 celebrations) and his World Heritage documentary, ‘On The Edge of Tomorrow’. He gained a Swan Gold award for the musical play, ‘Fleets of Fortune’. Ken contributed to the 2007 AFI awarded and 2008 Logie winning TV series adaptation of Tim Winton’s ‘Lockie’ tales. Has completed and is preparing documentary material 2003 -2009 ( Safecare, JAG Productions, Geopix, Artemis International etc) He is a Murdoch PHD candidate. He has taught production and screenwriting at Murdoch University, Edith Cowan University, Curtin University.
