Dr Straw completed a PhD in Scottish-Australian history at Murdoch University in 2004. Leigh is a specialist in Australian, British and European history and also lectures in Modern American History and Film History. Dr Straw's publications include a book on Scottish identity titled 'A Semblance of Scotland: Scottish Identity in Colonial Western Australia' (2006) and she has written articles for a number of Australian History Journals. A contributor to the forthcoming 'Encyclopedia of Western Australia', Leigh has presented papers at various conferences in Australia and more recently at a Scottish-New Zealand Conference in Wellington. She is currently researching Scottish identity in colonial Tasmania as well as developing her interest in modern German history. Leigh is a committee member of the Bringing Them Home Committee (WA), volunteer work that informs her teaching in Australian and Aboriginal Studies.
