Simmon Tan
graduated with a B.A. (Communications) degree from Murdoch University, Australia. He began a 13-year media career with
a Malaysian publishing group before moving into television
production with the Television Corporation of Singapore. As script
supervisor and head writer of the team that produced Singapore's
award-winning English sitcom, Under One Roof, Simmon continued to
develop and write for popular Singaporean television shows, such as
Happy Belly, Phua Chu Kang, My Grandson the Doctor and Kid's United,
telecast in South-East Asia, Australia and Canada. With eight
television series under his belt, Simmon has received various
nominations and awards for his scripts, including a Bronze Medal at
the New York Festival in 1995.
In 1999, Simmon became a lecturer at Nanyang Polytechnic in
Singapore, and later Murdoch University, teaching Design,
Storyboarding, Screen Writing and Screen Production. In 2005, Simmon
created, wrote and illustrated the first of a seven-volume
children’s book series entitled “Trouble in the Middle Kingdom”
(Singapore). In 2007, Simmon was appointed Visiting Fellow of Yunnan
University, China, and was also awarded the prestigious ‘Endeavour
Australia – Cheung Kong Research Fellowship’ for 2008.
Simmon continues to be active in the media industry, and is
lecturing and pursuing his PhD degree at the same time. |
