Dr Chris Hackett has had extensive experience in secondary Religious Education (RE), from teaching RE to coordination duties as Head of Department in Catholic secondary schools. He has taught Religious Education, Geography and Society and Environment in co-educational and single-sex (boys) schools. During the 1990s he worked at the Catholic Education Office (CEO) of Western Australia as a consultant on the Secondary Religious Education Team. He completed his doctorate on: A longitudinal study of the personal and professional responses of recently assigned secondary RE teachers to curriculum demands in 2006.

Chris teaches at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the areas of Religious Education, pastoral care, spirituality education and values education. He also supervises research students in Religious Education as part of the School of Education’s doctoral program. He has published articles on Religious Education in the Australian Journal of Religious Education and presented at conferences on the formation of RE teachers and the spirituality of young people. Since 2007, he has represented the university sector on the Curriculum Council’s Assessment, Review and Moderation (ARM) Panel for the Course of Study, Religion and Life. He has been a facilitator for professional development days on Religion and Life. Chris has also presented at the CEO Western Australia and at Catholic schools on teaching values, youth spirituality and the pedagogy of secondary Religious Education. In 2007, Chris was a member of the CEO working party on retreat programs and has collaborated on developing a retreat training leaders program for pre-service teachers at Notre Dame.
