Prof Berlach has spent over 30 years teaching in Schools of Education in the university sector. Prior to that, he had taught in both primary and secondary schools. Commencing his university career as a lecturer at Claremont Teachers College (now Edith Cowan University), the past 10 years have been spent at The University of Notre Dame Australia, first as Professor and Associate Dean in Education and retiring in 2012 as Pro Vice-Chancellor, Research. Richard has received awards for teaching, postgraduate supervision, and for his contribution to education more generally. Areas of interest include, among others, educational psychology, curriculum studies, inclusive education, general pedagogy, educational research and religious studies. He has presented at many national and international conferences, published in high impact journals, supervised numerous doctoral students to successful completion, and mentored junior staff to assist them with career progression. He is currently engaged via doctoral supervision, doctoral thesis examination and publishing, as well as consultation on an ad hoc basis.
