Welcome from the Head the Program

It is my pleasure to welcome current and potential students to Biomedical Science. In this post-genomic era, biomedical sciences hold the potential to improving our quality of life through research and biotechnology. The course in Biomedical Science is the first step in this journey and takes you through the marvel of the human body.

Biomedical Science was established in 1993 to provide a study of the human structure and function, from body organs to cellular processes, the effects of microbes and environment on the body and the pathogenesis of diseases. The final year sees an advanced study in several areas of biomedical sciences such as human genetics, forensic analysis, neuroscience, pollution & ecotoxicology, pathology and reproductive biology, with the practicum program providing the interface between the University and industries. The course is designed to also allow you the flexibility of pursuing areas of study that suit your interests in the elective units while providing a coherent foundation in biomedical sciences.

The underlying philosophy of the Biomedical Science program is “provision of a foundation in Biomedical Science through scientific principles, investigations and applications”.  Biomedical Science at Notre Dame is developed in the contexts of current needs and relevant advances in Science and Medicine and if you have the passion for the working of the human body, then Biomedical Science is for you.
