2004 Awards
Each year a number of student awards are made to recognise the outstanding achievements of students throughout their course. Below are the various prizes and awards made for 2004.
Archbishop Foley Award for 2004
This award recognises outstanding service and commitment to the development of the University Community.

The John Bloomfield Prize in Health and Physical Education
About Professor John Bloomfield

This award is open to students from any of the courses offered in the School. It is awarded to the “young professional of the future”; one who throughout their course has demonstrated academic achievement, service and leadership within the university and/or the community. The prize is named in honour of the Chairman of the School Advisory Board, an academic of outstanding reputation who established the first academic program of physical education in an Australian University at the University of Western Australia. He was also the catalyst in the 1970s for the development of the Australian sports system which created the Australian Sports Commission, State Institutes of Sport and State and Federal Departments of Sport and Recreation. The award consists of a student’s name on the John Bloomfield Honour Board, a framed award and cash prize of $200.

The West Australian Sports Federation Student Prize for Academic Achievement

This award recognises the final year student studying the Bachelor of Sport and Recreation Management who achieves the highest academic standing throughout their course. The award consists of a book voucher to the value of $100. No award in 2004

This award recognises the student who has made a significant contribution to the community through their service to and leadership in sport and recreation during their course. The award consists of a book voucher to the value of $100.

Australian Council for Health Physical Education and Recreation (ACHPER WA) Student Awards

The award consists of a $250 prize for the most merited student based on their practicum evaluations for the following courses
- Bachelor of Health and Physical Education
- Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science
Deans Award for Excellence
The Deans Award for Excellence is designed to recognise excellence in competency and academic performance in any of the Health fields
Any graduating student enrolled in one of the Health disciplines is eligible for registration with a relevant Health industry-related professional body.
The award is determined by the candidates;
- Demonstration of a consistent effort and high level of success academically throughout the entire course
- Demonstrated application of practical skills in a practicum/clinical setting
- Demonstration of team leadership and teamwork skills throughout the course
- Contribution to the ethos and philosophy of the University
Michael Quinlan Community Contribution Award
The Michael Quinlan Community Contribution Award is designed to recognise an outstanding contribution to the community as a presentative of the Health profession at the student level
Any graduating student enrolled in one of the Health disciplines is eligible for registration with a relevant Health industry-related professional body
The award is determined by the candidates;
- Demonstrated contribution to the University community, Health profession and wider population
- Demonstrated application of practical skills in practicum/clinical setting
- Demonstration of team leadership and teamwork skills throughout the course
- Contribution to the mission and goals of the University
