Dr Sotzik is presently a full-time lecturer in immunology and genetics, with other additional teaching roles. He has a first class Honours in biochemistry from UWA and a PhD from the University of Melbourne for immunology research conducted at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research. He also has extensive experience in laboratory work at the postdoctoral level.
The biochemistry Honours project of Dr Sotzik featured enzyme kinetics. His immunology PhD involved a study of subsets of human thymocytes, including dendritic cells. He has always had an interest in research involving human cells with a clinical focus. To this end he has worked on topics relevant to cancer, HIV/AIDS, diabetes, rotavirus infection and drug discovery to combat parasitic diseases. In addition, he was data manager on cancer clinical trials involving an Australian biotechnology company. In summary, Dr Sotziks past work has provided experience in a wide range of biomedical science areas.
Dr Sotzik has an interest in teaching university students about biomedical science. His experience of biomedical science laboratory work is valuable in the training of students in laboratory techniques useful in research and industry. Furthermore, the range of fields within which he has worked is valuable for lecturing and being a resource for students keen on a career path in biomedical science.
