Gerard Cleveland operates Cleveland & Co legal practice in the Northern Suburbs of Perth. He was formerly the managing solicitor with the Northern Suburbs Community Legal Centre Joondalup office. He has also worked as a solicitor at both the Consumer Credit Legal Service as well as the Mental Health Law Centre in Western Australia (WA). Gerry provides workshops on social issues for lawyers, article clerks, Court users, law students and other community members from across Western Australia. At Notre Dame and other universities across Australia he has taught Legal Research and Writing, Mental Health and the Law and Effective Problem Based teaching strategies for legal/justice professors and lecturers.
Gerry has a professional background as a former secondary school principal and education consultant. He continues to teach staff at schools, universities, colleges and police agencies from across the world to use problem-based methodologies in classrooms. His own classes are taught using a real-life, problem solving methodology rather than a lecture format.
In North America, Gerry serves as the co-chair of the Police Society for Problem Based Learning, an international non-profit society. For the previous eight years he served as the President of that society. (www.pspbl.com).
In WA, Gerry has worked extensively with metropolitan, rural and remote communities to offer education about drug problems and to promote awareness of mental health and criminal law, consumer credit issues, and the law in relation to vulnerable clients, especially those suffering with a mental illness.
