FTI borrowers – Frequently Asked Questions

The University of Notre Dame Australia has a Memorandum of Agreement with the Fremantle and Television Institute (FTI).  Under this agreement the FTI has transferred ownership of its library to Notre Dame and in return Notre Dame has offered current FTI members access to library items previously held in the FTI collection.  The FTI collection consists of books and serials (journals and magazines).

Where is the library ?
These items will be housed in the St Teresa’s Library at the Fremantle Campus (building number ND17).  A map of the campus is available here.

When is the library open ?
The library opening hours can be viewed here.

How do FTI members register to borrow ?
To gain access to these library items FTI members will need to register with St Teresa’s Library.  Registration requires FTI members to present a current FTI membership card and photo identification such as a driver’s licence.  Library registration will be for the same period as the FTI membership, meaning that members will need to re-register with the Library when they renew their FTI membership and get a new FTI card.

What are members entitled to borrow?
FTI members will be entitled to borrow any item from the FTI Collection.  Members will be able to borrow up to four items at a time and each loan is for a six week period.

Can members borrow journals or magazines ?
No.  Serials (journals and magazines) are not available for loan but FTI members will be able to use photocopying facilities at the Library. The copiers operate on a swipe-card system. Members may use any plastic card with a magnetic strip, eg. Flybuys, Medicare, Visa to create a copying account or buy a card for this purpose from the library desk for $2.20. All photocopying must be in accordance with the limits and restrictions imposed by the Copyright Act (1968).  You can find out more about the Copyright act at the Australian Copyright Council website (www.copyright.org.au )

How do members find the items in the FTI collection ?
The items in the FTI Collection all have an author heading attached to them which makes them visible on the UNDA library catalogue.  The catalogue can be accessed via the University website.   Members can conduct an ‘author alphabetical’search for ‘FTI Collection’ and this will show a list of all items in the collection.
