World Youth Day (WYD) - Options

The Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney is organising a number of pilgrimages that will all include powerful encounters of faith through cultural and spiritual experiences. Each pilgrimage will be split into separate bus groups, led by a Bishop or Priest and logistically managed through a Bus Leader.

  1. Marian Shrines Tour (25 days)

    The Marian Shrine pilgrimage is one of the four pilgrimage organized by the Archdiocese of Sydney. This pilgrimage begins in Lisbon, Portugal and includes visits to other significant Marian shrines including Fatima, Salamanca, Burgos, Lourdes, Toulouse, before making way to Krakow in Poland. After the WYD week, there is a 3-day retreat in Zakopane and a day trip in Vienna, Austria before heading home.

  2. University Student Pilgrim Tour: Footsteps of John Paul II (24 days)

    The Footsteps of John Paul II is the official uni student pilgrimage option. It is open to all young adults but the university chaplaincies are encouraging students to travel together with this option. This pilgrimage begins in Rome and includes a trip to Assisi nearby. Arriving into Poland the pilgrimage will travel to the Shrine of the Black Madonna (Czestochowa), then onto the Pope’s hometown of Wadowice. This pilgrimage will also include a visit to Auschwitz. After the WYD week, there is a 3-day retreat in Zakopane and a day trip in Prague, Czech Republic before heading home.

  3. Krakow, Poland Direct Pilgrim Group (17 days)

    Those who are short on time (or funds) but still want to be a part of the World Youth Day experience are invited on the Krakow Direct pilgrimage. Flying into Warsaw, they will travel down to Krakow to join with young people from around the world. Prepare to encounter a different way of life in this fascinating city as we prepare for World Youth Day. After the WYD week, there is a 3-day retreat in Zakopane and a day trip in Prague, Czech Republic before heading home.

  4. Small Group Leader with Catholic Youth Services

    Catholic Youth Services in the Archdiocese of Sydney is looking for small group leaders (SGL) for their pilgrims. The SGL will be responsible for 8-10 pilgrims, whilst supporting them on pilgrimage through their religious, organisational and pastoral leadership. In recognition of the SGL’s support and role during the WYD pilgrimage, a credit of $1500 will be added to SGL’s account with Cosmos WYD Tours.

  5. The Catholic Weekly Parish Fundraising Project

    The Catholic Weekly wants to support young people who are hoping to go to WYD Krakow 2016 by offering a fundraising opportunity through their local parish youth groups. For every $2 paper sold, $1 will be given back to the Parish so as to raise funds to help send pilgrims over.

Ristrations for WYD will officially open and students will have until March 2016 to register and pay. When you register for WYD, you will need to put down a $500 deposit with final payment due by March 2016.

400-500 young people are expected to join the Sydney pilgrimages as part of an Australian contingent of approximately 2000 young people.
