STUDENTS SAMPLE UNIVERSITY LIFE

Students from Yule Brook College in Maddington, Perth and Sacred Heart School in Beagle Bay were given an insight into life at a University recently when they visited The University of Notre Dame Australia’s Broome Campus.

The Yule Brook students are all members of the Yule Brook Football Academy, one of six academies under the guidance of the Clontarf Foundation. The successful football program is designed to build self esteem and improve the academic results of young indigenous boys, one of the most at risk groups in Australia.

The Broome Campus is a strong supporter of the local West Kimberley Football Academy (WKFA) and current student, Tony Delaney, is one of the WKFA’s operations managers.

The students from Year 9 and 10 enjoyed a pancake breakfast cooked by Broome Campus Executive Director Mr Gavin Greaves before touring the facilities.

Their tour included the on-campus accommodation and the library, but it was the nursing theatre which proved to be a hit.

The boys were intrigued with the state-of-the-art equipment used by the nursing students and when questioned by lecturer Anne Milln they agreed how important the role of nurses play in the community.
