Notre Dame Counselling Recognises Important Relationships

Every year, third year counselling students from The University of Notre Dame Australia, Fremantle gain valuable experience undertaking internships at many local counselling agencies.

The School of Counselling recently invited representatives from agencies, such as Mercy Care Fremantle and the South Metro Community Drug Service, to the University, thanking them for their continued support of the program and for providing a valuable service to the students’ education.

Coordinator of counselling, Associate Professor Martin Philpott, said maintaining Notre Dame’s relationships with different counselling centres is very important to the University and vital to students’ further learning and understanding of the profession.

“These are the agencies and the professionals within them that we depend on in partnership to prepare our students for entry into the profession of counselling. We are extremely grateful for their generous support,” said Professor Philpott.

Representative from Mercy Care, Fremantle, Godfrey Baronie, said their affiliation with Notre Dame is tremendously valuable to the organisation.

“We love our connection with the University. The students add a different dimension to our counselling. Their skill base is very good and they are well trained in understanding the process of very effective work,” said Mr Baronie.
