Law student plays hockey for Australia

Fiona Boyce, from The University of Notre Dame Australia, Fremantle has been selected for the Australian Junior Women’s Hockey Team.

Ms Boyce, who is currently in her second year of a Law/Commerce degree at Notre Dame, will be travelling to Cape Town in South Africa with 16 other players to compete against their junior team.

She has represented Australia on a number of occasions, including the 2005 Junior World Cup in Chile and also captained the national Youth Hockey Team in Sydney this year.

“I have been in the National Junior Hockey Program for four years now. I feel really privileged to be able to represent and play for my country,” said Ms Boyce.

This year Ms Boyce was instrumental in starting up a women’s hockey team at the University.

Manager of the Student Life Office, Dave McLean, has nominated her for the 2007 Enough is Enough University Sports Star Award.

“Fiona is a fantastic student.  Despite being injured she has played a key role in putting together a strong team to represent Notre Dame in the Tertiary Sports Western Australian Women’s Hockey Championships,” said Mr McLean.

Ms Boyce has been playing hockey since the age of four. She has represented the State for over seven years and currently plays for the WA Diamonds and the University of Western Australia Hockey Club.
