Nursing and Midwifery Dean appointed Head of Fremantle Campus
13 February 2014
Long-serving Dean of the School of Nursing & Midwifery, Professor Selma Alliex, has been appointed as Pro Vice Chancellor and Head of the Fremantle Campus at The University of Notre Dame Australia.
Professor Alliex was Dean of the School of Nursing & Midwifery from 2005 until the commencement of her new role on Monday 3 February 2014. Dr Karen Clark-Burg has since been appointed as the Acting Dean of the School.
Prior to her tenure at Notre Dame, Professor Alliex was the Nursing Adviser for Professional Standards at the Nurses Board of Western Australia.
Vice Chancellor, Professor Celia Hammond, said she was delighted at the appointment of Professor Alliex as the Head of Fremantle Campus.
”Professor Alliex has been Dean of the School of Nursing & Midwifery for eight years – during which time it has grown to be a powerhouse School on the Fremantle Campus in terms of both undergraduate and postgraduate enrolments, reputation, external partnerships and innovations,” Professor Hammond said.
“Her skills and attributes which have led to the success of the School of Nursing & Midwifery in WA are ones which translate well to the wider university context.”
Professor Alliex said she would like to use her leadership skills to build on the current professional relationships the University has with the Fremantle community, and promote the wonderful study and practical opportunities available to students at Notre Dame.
For me, Notre Dame is a holistic place to be – whether it is through staff interaction, or just enjoying the beautiful location the Campus is situated in,” Professor Alliex said.
“I am delighted to have been appointed to this position and I hope to continue to grow Notre Dame and its legacy as one of the world’s leading Catholic universities.”
