Local education agreement signed and sealed

A new education agreement is giving Fremantle students better access to university.

Challenger Institute of Technology and The University of Notre Dame Australia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that provides seamless pathways from vocational education and training into university.

Challenger Institute CEO Liz Harris said the two local organisations were committed to supporting higher education options for people in the local community.

"This is a very exciting partnership with great educational benefits," Ms Harris said. "Together, Challenger Institute and Notre Dame are working together to ensure the best learning opportunities for every student."

Ms Harris said the MOU strengthened Challenger Institute's existing articulation arrangements with the university sector.

She said the partnership with Notre Dame would open the doors to a university education for Challenger's higher qualification students, and in particular would give students living in Fremantle and its surrounds access to a local university.

The agreement will enable graduates of Challenger's diplomas and advanced diplomas to apply for entry into a variety of Notre Dame Bachelor degree-level courses, including arts, commerce, communications, education, nursing, management, sport and science.

Challenger graduates may also receive credit of up to one year advanced standing in a three or four year degree at Notre Dame.

Notre Dame Vice Chancellor, Professor Celia Hammond, said the University looked forward to working with Challenger in promoting broader universal higher education options for all students, with a specific focus on greater study opportunities for Indigenous students and students from low socio-economic backgrounds.

"Both Notre Dame and Challenger are committed to establishing seamless pathways between learning programs and qualifications across sectors to ensure our students can contribute meaningfully to society in their future careers," Professor Hammond said.
