Emmanuel graduate, Jessica, reaching for the stars at Notre Dame
Bachelor of Science / Bachelor of Arts double degree at Notre Dame.
20 September 2015
The goal of becoming an obstetrician through a closer study of human biology and medicine has inspired Emmanuel Catholic College graduate, Jessica Puca, to undertake a double degree in Science and Arts at The University of Notre Dame Australia’s Fremantle Campus.
“Being a triplet, I feel that this is a career path very close to my heart. The learning environment amongst students and teachers, and support given to me by academic staff and peers is overwhelming. It has definitely inspired me to achieve my goals,” Jessica said.
Attracted by the University’s deliberately smaller class sizes, personalised learning environment and pastoral care for all students, the third-year student said she saw the double degree, delivered through the School of Arts & Sciences, as a way of developing both professionally and personally. Jessica is majoring in Human Biology and Italian.
Describing herself as someone who appreciates the value of learning and relationship building, Jessica is actively involved in community service. In 2015, she tutored Indigenous children in mathematics, reading and science at East Kalgoorlie Primary School through the charity Teach Learn Grow.
Her advice to current secondary school students is to take ownership of study habits, especially in preparing for final year exams.
“This might mean doing extra reading and undertaking independent study. What helped me was taking a very practical approach to revision, looking at past exam papers and answering questions as you would in a pressurised situation. I wish the Year 12 cohort at Emmanuel all the best for their final exams,” Jessica said.
Applications are now open to study in 2016. For course listings and admissions information, please visit notredame.edu.au.
