Commander, US Pacific Command, visits Notre Dame Australia
The University of Notre Dame Australia was pleased to welcome Admiral William J Fallon, Commander, US Pacific Command, this week as he gave a guest lecture at its Fremantle campus on Wednesday 16 November.
The lecture, which took place in the University's main administrative building on Mouat Street, was attended by a cross-section of the University's staff and students, as well as a number of both national and local dignitaries.
Admiral Fallon's address centred on US strategic issues in the Pacific, and the US-Australia alliance.
Admiral Fallon, who previous to his current appointment served as both Chief of Staff, US Atlantic Command, and Vice Chief of Naval Operations, is a graduate of the Naval War College, Newport, R.I., the National War College in Washington, D.C., and holds a Master of Arts Degree in International Studies from Old Dominion University. His awards include the Defence Distinguished Service Medal, Defence Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, and various unit and campaign decorations.
Prior to his lecture, the Admiral joined invited guests at a breakfast hosted by Vice Chancellor Peter Tannock and US Consul General Robin McClellan. Guests included the Shadow Defence Procurement Minister, Senator Mark Bishop, the Federal Member for Cowan, Graham Edwards, Rear Admiral Davyd Thomas, Maritime Commander, Australian Department of Defence, as well as various senior members of the University community, and Fremantle Mayor, Peter Tagliaferri.
