Institute for Health and Rehabilitation Research

The Institute for Health and Rehabilitation Research was established in 2008 to foster partnerships in research and innovation to improve community health and wellbeing.  While physically based on the Fremantle Campus, the Institute also engages in research opportunities on its Broome and Sydney campuses.

Our latest project - Free Fitness Appraisals!

Staff and students from the School of Health Sciences are seeking participants aged between 15 and 19 years for a small research project investigating physical fitness levels in Western Australian youth.

Aspects of physical fitness such as cardio-respiratory endurance, muscle strength and endurance, flexibility and body composition are major markers of health and predictive of adverse health outcomes such as Coronary Heart Disease and Type 2 diabetes in adulthood.

Participants will undertake a range of fitness tests such as vertical jump, curl ups, a modified step test and grip strength in a fun and motivating environment.  A comprehensive report will be provided to all participants.

If you want to know more please contact Professor Beth Hands on 94330206, Ben Piggott 94330961 or Tanya Blee 9433 0120.
