Aurora Native Title Internship Program
The Aurora Native Title Internship Program places law, anthropology and other social science (archaeology, cultural heritage, environmental management,  human geography, history and sociology) students and graduates from Australian universities at Native Title Representative Bodies (NTRBs) and other organisations involved in policy development, social justice and Indigenous affairs.   The program introduces candidates to career opportunities in native title and Indigenous affairs and at the same time provides assistance to under-resourced and over-worked organisations.

Indigenous Commonwealth Scholarships

The Commonwealth Scholarships Program is administered on behalf of the Australian Government by eligible higher education providers. There are a number of Indigenous Commonwealth Scholarships that Indigenous students can apply for. These include:

Indigenous Access Scholarship (IAS) provide eligible commencing students with a one off payment. These scholarships assist Indigenous students to undertake an eligible enabling course, undergraduate course or graduate diploma (or equivalent post graduate course of study) in an area of National Priority required for initial registration to practice in the chosen National Priority field.

Indigenous Commonwealth Education Cost Scholarship (ICECS) are available to future full-time Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to assist with the costs associated with higher education.

Indigenous Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship (ICAS) seeks to help low-income full-time Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with the costs associated with higher education, who have moved a significant distance to study.

Indigenous Enabling Commonwealth Education Cost Scholarship (IECECS) are available to future full-time Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to assist with the costs associated with the enabling or bridging courses at Universities.

Indigenous Enabling Commonwealth Accommodation Cost Scholarship (IECAS) are available to future full-time Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to assist with the costs associated with the enabling or bridging courses at Universities, whom have moved a significant distance to study.

The Charlie Perkins Scholarships

Each year the Charlie Perkins Scholarship Trust offers two scholarships for Indigenous postgraduates to study at the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge for up to three years.

The Perkins Trust website provides comprehensive information on the scholarship criteria, how to apply, key dates, etc. (www.perkinstrust.com.au).   Also, attached please find a flyer with more information.

The Charlie Perkins Scholarships will only be awarded to students who have been accepted to either the University of Oxford or Cambridge.  In most instances, this will require a First Class Honours degree or a very strong Second Class Honours degree.

Royal College of Nursing, Australia (RCNA) Nursing and Allied Health Scholarship and Support Scheme: Emergency Department

The following scholarships are available for nurses and non clinical support workers in an emergency department:

  • Postgraduate study including but not limited to Nurse Practitioner studies
  • Continuing Professional Development
  • Scholarships for Clinical Placement in an emergency department for:
    • Undergraduate nursing students
    • Postgraduate nursing students and
    • Registered nurses wanting to enhance their experience or change their area of professional practice
  • Emergency department non-clinical support staff wanting to undertake continuing professional development

Catherine King Scholarships in Nursing
Value: $2,000

The Scholarship is to assist students studying a Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled/Division 2 Nursing) at the University of Notre Dame Australia’s Broome Campus.
The scholarship is directed towards assisting students whose educational opportunities are limited due to financial or economic hardship by meeting the cost of their course tuition fees and educational related expenses.

The Prime Minister’s Australia Asia Awards

The Prime Minister’s Australia Asia Awards are a unique opportunity for you to undertake international study and research related to your Australian degree, and gain international work experience through an internship, building your professional network in Asia.

The Awards are open to Australian undergraduates and postgraduates in any field of study. Twenty postgraduate and twenty undergraduate awards are available each year.

The Prime Minister’s Australia Asia Postgraduate Award provides financial support for students to undertake study or research in Asia towards their Australian postgraduate qualification, at Masters or PhD level either by coursework or research, in any field of study. This Award provides up to $63,500 towards travel and establishment allowances, tuition and internship contributions, and travel insurance.

Are you an Undergraduate student?
The Prime Minister’s Australia Asia Undergraduate Award provides financial support for students to undertake study or research in Asia towards their Australian undergraduate qualification, at Bachelor or Honours level in any field of study. This Award provides up to $53,500 towards travel and establishment allowances, tuition and internship contributions, and travel insurance.

Rural Tertiary Hardship Fund
The Australian Government is ensuring that the most disadvantaged rural and regional students will now have more opportunity to attend university through the release of new grants under the Rural Tertiary Hardship Fund.

Students from areas other than major capital cities, commencing a bachelor degree in 2011 and experiencing severe financial hardship, are able to apply for a $3000one-off grant to assist in undertaking their university degree. In semester one, 2011 there will be around 1600grants made available.

The Mary MacKillop Foundation offers scholarships for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Tertiary students at Australian universities.

The student must have a commitment to indigenous education, health, human rights or justice and complete an Application Form noting their indigenous background, details of his/her course, their current situation and, most importantly, the envisaged benefits of completing this degree for the wider Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander community.

Australian University Scholarships

Australian universities offer a range of postgraduate scholarships to international students predominantly targeting Doctoral and Masters Degrees by research. Royal Australian Air Force Women’s Association
Each year financial grants are made to students on application to assist with the costs of education.
Eligibility is restricted to ‘RAAF families’, being those where the students parents or grandparents (living or dead), or other close relatives, serving, or have served, in the RAAF.

There is no specific income limit. Grants are decided on actual circumstances and are limited to those families most in need.
