From 2016 in NSW, students completing the HSC who wish to enrol in a teaching degree need to achieve three Band 5s, one being English. This unit will focus on the NSW Higher School Certificate Stage 6 English learning outcomes for Standard and Advanced English. It will incorporate the seven key competencies outlined in the Australian Curriculum: literacy; numeracy; ICT capability; critical and creative thinking; personal and social capability; ethical understanding and intercultural understanding. The mode of delivery for this unit is face-to-face learning experiences via a one-hour lecture and two two-hour tutorials per day, over ten days. The aim of this Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards (BOSTES) - approved intensive unit is to provide students with the knowledge and skills equivalent to Band 5 English competency to enable them to meet the new entry requirements to gain direct entry into undergraduate study in Education.
