ED1111 Information Literacy
Students are consumers of information in a range of forms, especially print and electronic. This unit skills students in the appropriate location, use and citation of academic materials.

ED1112 Academic Writing
The ED1112 Academic Writing for Education Students module is designed to facilitate the skills required to write effectively for academic purposes. For this unit, the assumption is that students already have a strong grasp of the grammatical and syntactic aspects which are fundamental to working intelligently with the English language. Hence, the topics covered will relate primarily to higher order organisational, structural, and analytical processes that should be utilised in effective academic writing. Both assignment and exam contexts are considered and the module also introduces students to citation and referencing protocols for units undertaken in the College of Education.

ED1113 Introduction to ICT for Teachers
Student-teachers need to know about, and be able to confidently use a number of software applications (eg Word, Excel, PowerPoint). They will also be required to demonstrate familiarity with web-based materials, especially those with a teaching application. This module provides an introduction to these areas of skill and understanding.

ED1115 Literacy Competency
This unit aims to develop a students literacy ability.

ED1116 Numeracy Competency
This unit aims to develop a students Mathematical ability.

ED1120 Introduction to Teaching and the Curriculum Framework
This unit examines, in an exploratory way, key ideas about teaching and learning, the role of the teacher, the characteristics of effective teachers and schools. It explores the purpose and nature of schools. It introduces students to the essentials of lesson planning and to oral communication skills associated with teaching. Students are also introduced to the Curriculum Framework , a key document directing and shaping the approach to education taken in all Western Australian schools.

ED1294 Classroom Immersion (Secondary)
Pre-Requisite: ED1120
The School Observation experience is more important for it makes a significant contribution to the student teacher's professional development. The Observation period provides the opportunity for initial classroom experience and reflection on the professional role of a teacher. Moreover, it also assists the student teacher in making a choice about teaching as a career. At the successful completion of their academic work, this first year cohort of students progress to the more demanding requirements of a block practice in year two.
