The unit is a school experience program for one school term. Student-teachers teach a number of lessons in the same class in a particular Learning Area(s). ED3110 Religious Studies in Australian Schools 1
This Unit investigates the phenomenon of religious experience as expressed by people in major religions around the world and within Australian society. This also includes an inquiry into the uniqueness and significance of Aboriginal spirituality to Australian communities today. From this initial study of world religions, the Unit turns its attention to special interest topics affecting the world and Australian society today: the tension between and within different religions, the role of women within the major religions today, the relationship between religion and science and the development of other beliefs systems. It is designed to assist future teachers who intend to teach in religious and/or State schools to understand the religious heritage and practices of many of their students in their classes. Specifically, ED3110/4125 is for students not seeking Accreditation or who wish to acquire "Accreditation to Teach in a Catholic School' .

ED3128 Educational Psychology
At the completion of this course students will be aware of the various stages of development and their characteristics; have an understanding of the role of motivation and its use in learning; understand behavioural and social learning theory and their applications; be able to identify different approaches to instruction and the effectiveness of each style and understand the nature of intelligence and consequent individual differences.

ED3211 Teaching and Learning Strategies
This unit brings together understandings of the Curriculum Framework, a developmental approach to teaching and learning as well as students' growing understanding of teaching practice. It also draws on the student teachers' ability to employ the most appropriate strategies, approaches and resources to enable students to reach their learning potential.

ED3212 Curriculum Framework and Student Outcomes
This unit aims to increase students' understanding of the nature and purpose of the Curriculum Framework and how it might be used. In addition, it explores the concept of progress maps, exemplified by Student Outcome Statements. Various progress maps will also be examined.

ED3218 Secondary Religious Education 2

The Unit is designed for students to extend their knowledge of teaching Religious Education in Catholic upper secondary schools in WA. Throughout the Unit students explore the context of Religious Education as a Ministry of the Word and as the first key Learning Area in a Catholic school. ED3218/4219 assists students in seeing how the content of the mandated diocesan Religious Education Guidelines can be conveyed to students in the upper secondary school context. This Unit is a requirement for those seeking "Accreditation to Teach Religious Education' as in a Catholic secondary school.

The unit is provided by school-based Learning Area Specialists, recognised for the special expertise and qualifications they bring.

ED3529 Understanding and Guiding Children's Behaviour
In this unit students analyse the relationship between children's development, emotional competence, and behaviour. They identify factors that may trigger behaviours of concern and develop management plans for guiding the behaviour of individual children. The unit focuses on helping young children to manage their emotions by developing competencies such as self-awareness, self-control, empathy, and the skills of listening and resolving conflicts. Throughout the unit, students explore the concept of emotional Intelligence. Also addressed are conditions under which it may be necessary to involve others, for example family and support systems, in the management process.

ED3619 Principles of Primary Religious Education 2
Pre-Requisite: ED2618
This unit is designed to enable student teachers of pre-primary and primary school students to acquire a sound knowledge and understanding of religious education method. Building on the theological principles underlying the Religious Education Curriculum studied in ED2618, students are helped to develop skills in program planning, lesson preparation, evaluation, assessment and reporting. Presentation of religious education lessons either within a school or tutorial context is an integral part of this unit.

ED3622 Learning Area Studies: The Arts
Pre-Requisite: ED1120
This unit gives students an insight and practical experience in the art forms of dance, drama, music and visual arts (art, craft, and design). Media and technology are integrated within each of the arts forms. Student teachers are given the opportunity to acquire practical skills in all of the arts forms. Study centres on the development of appreciation, knowledge, creating and presenting/performing the arts. Students are led to an understanding of how arts learning can be integrated into the various curriculum areas within the school. Students develop the skills to incorporate the creative and expressive arts into the early childhood and primary school curriculum.

ED3624 Primary Maths: Chance & Data and Algebra

This unit provides teachers with background to teaching the strands of Chance & Data and Algebra in primary mathematics. Students will be exposed to the content, methodologies and resources related to Chance & Data and Algebra and will have the opportunity to develop meaningful teaching-learning activities to use in the classroom. Students do not require any particular prior knowledge of chance/data/statistics and/or algebra; key concepts will be revised during the course of study .

ED3628 Learning Area Studies: English 2
Pre-Requisite: ED1120; ED1625
This unit focuses on teachers' planning for the development of children's language as a sound basis for them becoming competent in the areas of oral language, writing, reading and spelling/phonics. Student teachers explore how classrooms can be supportive and stimulating language-rich environments and how planning needs to reflect the range of children's skills, interests and abilities. Student teachers will develop their ability to integrate the development of children's literacy and high order thinking skills across all learning areas while encouraging children to become self-directed and independent learners.

ED3629 Catering for Students with Special Needs
This unit covers children with special needs and studies ways in which the classroom teacher can modify the learning environment to include all learners. The concept of integration is explored, as well as the social justice issues related to special needs. Special emphasis is given to developing strategies and learning processes for special education students; the gifted and talented as well as students with learning disabilities and handicaps.

ED3719 Student Learning in Middle School
Pre-Requisite: ED2729
Interactive and collaborative approaches to teaching and learning are fundamental to middle schooling. This unit examines the range of approaches and their application in a middle schooling classroom. The importance and delivery of integrated curriculum is also explored.

ED3794 Middle Schooling School Experience 2

The unit is a school experience program for one school term. Student-teachers teach an increasing number of lessons in the same class in a particular Learning Area(s). Each student-teacher is assessed for developing competence and a Pass grade or higher is required for progression to the School Experience II.

ED 3795 Middle Schooling Teaching Method II
Co-Requisite: ED3794
The unit will provide regular opportunities for student-teachers to gain resources and acquire information about teaching strategies to apply to the teaching of lessons during the School Experience II. By working closely with a Learning Areas Specialist, student-teachers will work towards the closer integration of theory and practice.

The unit is designed to enable students to explore and reflect on the arts in its various forms. As the completion of the unit, students will have developed skills and the confidence to implement an effective arts program.

ED3928 Learning Area Studies: English 2 & LOTE (K-7 Course Only)
Pre-Requisite: ED1120, ED1625
Student teachers are made aware that such development provides a sound basis for children beginning and extending their oral and written literacy skills while also developing their ability to critically evaluate a diversity of texts and social issues. Catering for the needs of LOTE students is a special focus in this unit. It also examines how planning needs to reflect the range of student skills, interests and abilities while encouraging students to become self-directed and independent learners across all learning areas.

ED3936 Programming & Sequential Learning (K-7 Course Only)

The development of programming skills brings together understandings of the Curriculum Framework (1998), a developmental approach to teaching and learning as well as student teachers' growing understandings gained in methodology units covering the major learning areas. It also draws on the student teachers' ability to employ the most appropriate strategies, approaches and resources to enable students reach their learning potential in line with a school's overall policy.

ED3994 School Experience 2 (K-7 Course Only)
Pre-Requisite: ED2994
The unit is a school experience program in which student-teachers spend up to 10 weeks on full-time practicum with the aim of extending the student-teacher's teaching competence in nominated teaching areas and facilitating progressive development of the skills needed for effective interpersonal involvement in the classroom.

EDV3120 Assessment and Evaluation in VET
Pre-Requisite: EDV2110
The unit aims to develop an understanding of assessment and evaluation within the Australian vocational education and training system. In particular it will examine on and off-the-job assessment, the graded assessment model, skills recognition and authentic tasks. Focus will also be on identifying links to competency based assessment and general curriculum education outcomes. In addition, students will be given the opportunity to develop their own assessments.

EDV3250 Design and Implementation of VET in Schools
Pre-Requisite: EDV2110
The unit aims to develop an understanding of both the design and implementation processes required for the viable adoption of VET programs in schools. Areas of learning covered include: integration of competency based training, embedding units of competency, structured workplace learning and VET in the W.A. Certificate of Education. Traineeships, school clusters, partnerships with RTO's and Curriculum Council and Department of Education and Training requirements and resources are also addressed. Focus will be placed on ensuring the school practitioner meets relevant AQTF requirements with regards to the above practices

EDV3294 Practicum Two: Registered Training Organisation Experience
Pre-Requisite: EDV2110
The unit is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) experience program of 10 weeks duration. Prior to their practicum, students who do not have recent industry experience within their area of expertise may be required to complete two (2) of the ten (10) weeks in an industry relevant organisation. Student-teachers will observe and participate in formal teaching situations relevant to their nominated vocational qualifications. They will be expected to assist the supervising lecturer in a variety of hands-on, research or administrative activities whilst building to a substantial teaching load by the end of the practicum
