Advanced Standing and Credit Transfer

Advanced Standing

Advanced standing, also known as credit transfer, is credit granted towards a degree program for study already undertaken. By giving recognition to prior learning, advanced standing prevents the unnecessary duplication of study and can save time and money.
The availability of advanced standing does not guarantee entry into a particular course. In some cases there are high levels of competition for places and in other cases applicants may need to have fulfilled other requirements to gain entry. Detailed information on regulations governing the awarding of Advanced Standing may be accessed from the University's General Regulations.
A student needs to apply for advanced standing, it is not automatic.

Application for advanced standing

  1. Make application for entry to the course of your choice at Notre Dame. You should read carefully the Admissions Guide and submit your Application for Admission by the required deadline.
  2. You may discuss the possibility of Advanced Standing at your admissions interview, though no confirmation may be provided at this early stage.
  3. Should you be given a offer to study at the University of Notre Dame you may request an Application for Advanced Standing form from the Student Administration Office.
  4. Fill in your personal details and information regarding your previous studies on the Application for Advanced Standing form and take it to the Student Administration Office. You must also attach the outline of the units of study you completed previously, including assessment and teaching structure to allow an assessment of relevance and comparability to be made. Unit outlines are available from universities' handbooks and/or websites. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure these documents are provided. These documents should be forwarded no later than two weeks prior to the start of semester in order for notification to occur before the commencement of the semester.

You will receive written notification of the outcome of your application before the end of the first week of semester.

Courses and units at Notre Dame

To be awarded a degree, students must complete the required number of units and credit points for that particular degree or course program. The number and type of units and the total credit points will vary from course to course. For more details on each course contact the School to obtain a detailed course structure.

Articulation from TAFE and RTOs

The University of Notre Dame Australia welcomes applicants with a previous record of study at TAFE or other Registered Training Organisations (RTOs). The University will be investigating the possibility of articulation agreements with selected Colleges over the coming years.
