The NSW Department of Education and Training ‘s 2011 Teacher Education Scholarship Program is now open for applications.
Up to 300 scholarships are on offer, providing:
an annual training allowance of $5,000 throughout your full-time studies
a guaranteed job in an agreed location when you graduate
$3,000 when you begin permanent teaching.
Over four years, the duration of most education degrees, the scholarship will provide you with $23,000 to spend as you wish.
As a teacher, you will also be eligible for the HECS-HELP benefit from the Commonwealth Government.
At least 80 of these scholarships are available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to train as teachers in primary or any secondary subject. The remainder are for students to train as teachers in secondary maths, science and English, and special education (K-12).
