EXTERNAL ADVISORY BOARD MEMBERS
The School of Medicine, Sydney has an external advisory board to provide collaborative and strategic advice to the Dean regarding School activities. It ensures that existing and planned resources grant students and surrounding community with maximum benefits.
Ms Gillian Calvert (Chair)
Gillian is the NSW Commissioner for Children and Young People since 1999. The Commission is an independent body reporting directly to NSW Parliament. She is also the Convenor of the NSW Child Death Review Team. Previously she was Director of the Office of Children and Young People in NSW Cabinet Office. Her publications include "Preventing Child Abuse: A National Strategy" and she co-edited "The Practice of Child Protection: Current Australian Approaches".
Professor John Shine
John is an Australian biochemist; he discovered the nucleotide sequence, called the Shine-Dalgarno sequence, necessary for the initiation of bacterial protein synthesis. He currently directs the Garvan Institute of Medical Research in Sydney, Australia. The Academy named their headquarters in Canberra in his honour. In 2000, Professor Shine donated one million dollars to renovate the dome. He was made an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1996.
Ms Katerina Angelopoulos
Katerina is a Board Member of the Eye and Ear hospital (Vic), and Board President of Moreland Community Health, and former President of YMCA Victoria. She won the Governor’s award for Victoria for multicultural services and the Centrelink Australia award for services to women affected by domestic violence. She has an extensive community network and brings a community focus to the Board.
Professor Suzanne Abraham
Suzanne is Sub Dean (Year 2) in Northern Clinical School, University of Sydney. She has a practice at Northside Clinic of Ramsay Health Care in Sydney. She is on the University of Sydney interview panel for medical students; and interviews overseas for international students. She has published widely and is on an international research committee for eating disorders. She has written books on eating disorders and was a co-author with Dr Derek Llewellyn Jones of “Everywoman” and “Everyman.
Dr Colin Goldschmidt
Colin is CEO and Head of DHM Pathology and Sonic Healthcare, an important clinical partner of the medical school.
Mr Martin Day
Martin is CEO of St Vincent’s and Mercy Private Hospital, an important clinical partner of the medical school.
Mr John Fogarty
John is CEO of SJOG Ballarat Hospital, an important clinical partner of the medical school.
Dr Aniello Iannuzzi
Dr Aniello Iannuzzi is a co-founder of the Warrumbungle Medical Centre. He studied Medicine at the University of Sydney,He did his residency at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Dubbo Base Hospital, before establishing the Warrumbungle Medical Centre, Coonabarabran, with Dr Eve Tsironis in 1997.
Mr Stephen Cornelissen
Mr Cornelissen has been with Mercy Health for eight years, most recently in the role of CEO of Mercy Health and Aged Care. He brings a long established commitment to Mercy Health and a significant understanding of the organisation, its people, its ethos and its Catholic heritage.
Prof Reginald Lord Snr
Professor Reginald S. A. Lord MD, FRACS is a consultant surgeon at St. Vincent's Hospital, St. Vincent's Private Hospital, and St. Vincent's Clinic. He is a Professor at the University of New South Wales. Professor Lord trained at St. Vincent's Hospital and at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles.
Prof Debora Picone
Debora Picone was appointed Director General of the NSW Department of Health in June 2007. Professor Picone has worked in a number of challenging and dynamic environments, leading several organisations through substantial periods of change and establishing new models of effective governance
Mr Steven Rubic
Steven Rubic was appointed Chief Executive Officer of St Vincents & Mater Health Sydney (SV&MHS) in March 2008. Prior to this he was Executive Director of St Vincents Private Hospital a position he held since 1997. He has a strong background in general administration and leadership experience in large, innovative organisations and has spent over 15 years working with the St Vincents Health group.
