I graduated as a registered nurse in 1983 at The Royal Free Hospital in London where I continued in renal/thoracic acute areas. Here I gained extensive experience in renal dialysis and thoracic surgery. I then completed a certificate in Cardiac Nursing at The National Heart Hospital in London and further expanded my cardiac knowledge by working in various coronary care units in London teaching hospitals. I arrived in Sydney in 1986 and worked at The Royal Prince Alfred Hospital as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in cardiology for 10 years.

In 1990 I commenced a full time science degree at The University of Sydney and graduated with honours in 1994. Here I continued my studies and completed a PhD in Molecular Biology specializing in bacterial genetics. During and after my PhD I taught Biochemistry to undergraduate pharmacy, science, and medical science students at The University of Sydney. Upon completion of my doctoral studies, the focus of my research shifted toward education and examined the course content and methods of assessment of Biochemistry university students throughout Australia.

I began teaching nursing undergraduate students at The University of Notre Dame in 2006 and became the unit coordinator of Human Body 1 and 2 in 2008, and the first year coordinator in 2010. My focus at Notre Dame is to bring my nursing experience and scientific background together to provide a relevant, accessible, and enjoyable pathway for nursing undergraduate students to understand the anatomy and physiology of the human body as a foundation for informed practice.
