Professor Jane Phillips
Professor Jane Phillips, RN, PhD is the inaugural Professor Palliative Nursing at The Cunningham Centre for Palliative Care and The University of Notre Dame, Australia Sydney. The Cunningham Centre for Palliative Care aims through academic leadership and collaboration, to promote and enable excellence in palliative care research, education, clinical practice and quality care.
Jane has previously worked extensively as a registered nurse in rural and urban palliative care settings across Australia, including 10 years as a Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Consultant. She has considerable health promotion and project management experience in the areas of chronic disease, cancer, ageing and palliative care. In 2004-06 she coordinated the Mid North Coast Division of General Practice Palliative Care Project and in 2005 completed the Program in Palliative Care Education and Practice at Harvard Medical School. From 2007-mid 2009, Jane was the Program Manager, Education and Service Development Section with Cancer Australia.
Her doctoral study focussed on Navigating a palliative approach in residential aged care using a population based approach. This action research project was designed to address the unmet needs of older people requiring palliative care across nine residential aged care facilities in regional New South Wales. This research has subsequently informed the delivery of end-of-life care in the Australian residential aged care sector.
Since 2004 Jane has attracted over $1.5 M dollars in external research and program funding. Her academic and research interests include: translational research, chronic disease, aged palliative care and population based palliative care delivery.
