School of Philosophy and Theology, Sydney

The School of Philosophy and Theology, Sydney commenced teaching at the University's Broadway site in February 2006. Through its programs of teaching and research, the School of Philosophy and Theology introduces students to the rich substance and values of the Catholic liberal arts and faith tradition in critical and creative dialogue with the deeper questions of contemporary individual and social life.

Bringing inquiry and teaching into fruitful relationship with a religious view of the world, it seeks to enable students to recognise and to promote the great power of ideas and ideals in the transformation of the world.

Introductory units in each of its three disciplines of Theology, Philosophy and Ethics, constitute the University's Core Curriculum. These provide something of a liberal arts base prior to students' commencing their more specialised studies.

The School of Philosophy and Theology aims to:

  1. open to scholars and students alike the rich possibilities flowing from the integration of the life of the mind with that of the spirit. create a community built on respect for the dignity and freedom of every person and characterised by a love of learning, a seeking of wisdom and a desire for God.
  2. open to all who make up the Notre Dame community of scholarship and learning, the richness of the Catholic tradition. promote in its teaching and research, creative and critical dialogue between Catholic faith and culture.
  3. be "Catholic" in the truest sense, open to dialogue and collaboration with all in the search for meaning, wisdom and truth. recognise and promote the great power of ideas and ideals in the transformation of human society.
