The sculpture of Our Lady

The sculpture of Our Lady (Notre Dame) which was a gift to The University of Notre Dame Australia from the University of Notre Dame, Indiana.
The figure was carved by Australia’s leading sculptor Peter Schipperheyn in 1994. Schipperheyn journeyed to Carrara, Italy which is famous for quarrying white and blue-gray marble, to source the marble for the sculpture.
On 12 March 1995, Father E.W. Beauchamp CSC, Executive Vice President, University of Notre Dame, Indiana dedicated the sculpture to honour the special bond between the two Notre Dame universities.
The glorious sculpture of Our Lady resides in the entrance to the University’s Vice Chancellery building. |
