Hawkesbury Clinical School

Hawkesbury Clinical School started its first cohort of students in late January 2010.

Hawkesbury District Health Service is a 127-bed facility providing both public and private health services located in Sydney’s North West. The hospital offers 24-hour emergency, medical, surgical, maternity, neonatal, palliative, intensive and coronary care as well as diagnostic services, simulation space, lecture theatre and tutorial rooms. The institution has been running successfully for over 18 years. The specialist consultants, local General Practitioners and the Psychiatrists from St John of God Hospital at Richmond have always given their time graciously and willingly to the students from the University of Notre Dame. The School looks after 25 students in their 3rd year for the whole year and between four and six 4th year students on four-week rotations throughout the year.

Students at the School have plenty of opportunities to participate in patient care with hands-on management of patients under supervision from the consultants on the ward. It is gratifying to see graduates of the School who are allocated to Hawkesbury come back as qualified doctors to interact with current students and are actively involved with student teaching.
